First Day of School is a Minimum Day for grades TK- 8
The first day of school, Wednesday, Aug. 12, is a minimum day, meaning students will be dismissed earlier according to the schedule. Thursday, Aug. 13 is on the Thursday schedule (earlier than typical release). Friday, Aug. 14 will be a full school day for students.
For Transitional Kindergarten students only, the first two weeks of school (Aug. 12-14 and Aug. 17-21) will be on the minimum day schedule.

How to Find Out Your Child’s Teacher (PowerSchool)
Class placement information will be available to parents online beginning Friday, August 7 at 3 p.m. At that time, your child’s class placement for the 2026-27 school year will be available for viewing on the PowerSchool Parent Portal: https://ps.mvwsd.org/public/ under the My Schedule link. If you have difficulty signing in to PowerSchool, please call your school office. Tip: It’s helpful to print out this schedule for your middle schooler to bring with him/her on the first day.
Commuting to school safely
It's critically important for children's safety that you take time now before the start of the school year to plan their route, tune up their wheels and talk with them about road safety. Walking and biking to school is a great way to get exercise, and reduce traffic collisions and congestion. Mountain View’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program has resources to keep us all healthy and safe.

Volunteers
We are grateful for parent volunteers! For student safety, frequent volunteers are required to apply to receive a badge. The badging process includes a background check and annual mandated reporter training for new and returning volunteers. State law (SB 848) recently strengthened the requirement for this annual training. The volunteer application process and training module opens Aug. 10. Parents can volunteer as infrequent volunteers prior to badging. More information to come.
School Supplies
Basic school supplies and textbooks are furnished for all students. Donations of items and funds are appreciated, but not required. It’s possible that your teacher may ask for additional, donated supplies after the start of school. Your student is not expected to bring school supplies with them on the first day of school.
School meals are free
MVWSD will continue to provide free meals to all students as part of California’s universal meal program. Breakfast and lunches are available daily. Menus and nutritional analysis can be found on https://www.mvwsd.org/nutrition. There will be a vegetarian option each day. A count of those taking school lunch will be taken at the beginning of the school day. Students may bring their own self-contained lunches if desired.
Transportation
The Mountain View Whisman School District Transportation Department provides transportation for students who are residents of Moffett and students with disabilities who are eligible for this service. For more information, and to apply for a bus pass, please visit this web page.
Child Care
MVWSD partners with YMCA to provide on-campus, fee-based childcare. Registration for programs is happening now. Please click here for information on sessions, cost and registration. A district program, MVWSD+, is available to provide qualifying students with after-school care for free. If you have questions or think you may qualify, please contact [email protected].
***Important: YMCA parent-paid programs will start on the first day of school, August 12. There is no District-sponsored MVWSD+ Afterschool Program (ELOP) on August 12. District-sponsored MVWSD+ Afterschool Programs (ELOP) will start on the second day of school, August 13.
Immunizations
Students are not allowed on campus and will not receive teacher assignments/class schedules until their required vaccinations are completed. Vaccinations (visit this website for the list) are required for school admission, and they are also crucial to prevent children from getting sick. Please schedule an appointment with your health care provider for a well-child visit and to review your child’s immunization record. Our Health Services team has been contacting parents/guardians to let them know what immunizations are missing. All documents, including vaccines, will need to be received and verified prior to the first day of school. For questions or help, please email [email protected].

Look for your school’s newsletter in your inbox in the first week of August. This weekly email is very important for you to read as it contains dates, deadlines, and important information about school.

Our schools and District send text messages infrequently, for the purpose of notifying you of emergencies or with important, time-sensitive information. You can subscribe to receive text messages from the District at any time by texting "Y" or “YES" to 67587 using the cell phone number that the District has on record.
Student Orientation Events
We host orientation and social activities before or during the first week of school. Please check for an email from your principal.
Student Use of Mobile Devices
To help students stay focused, connected, and engaged in learning, students’ personal devices such as cell phones and smartwatches must remain off and put away during the school day. If you need to reach your child, please contact the school office, and we will make sure your message gets to them. We also ask families to remind students that they may not use phones or smartwatches during class, lunch, or recess. Thank you for partnering with us to support a positive learning environment.
Technology
The Powerschool parent portal is the platform that all parents use to access their child’s grades, test scores, annual registration, view attendance and more. All parents have a login that was created when you registered your child for school. Please make sure that you can access Powerschool. If you need assistance, please contact your child’s school office.
Students in grades 4-8 bring their assigned Chromebooks to school each day. Students in grades K-3 will utilize Chromebook carts in the classroom, rather than be assigned individual devices as in past years. A limited number of Chromebooks will be available for Kindergarten through 3rd grade students’ individual use at parents’ request, and if students do not have one at home. If you would like your Kinder - third-grade student to be given a Chromebook for at-home use, please send an email with your request to [email protected] with your child's name and school. Parents can request support for Chromebooks through ServiceNow (the green Tech Support “Now” icon in the menu) available to parents in the PowerSchool parent portal.
MVWSD provides a tool to help parents be aware of their student’s online activities. Schools use Securly to keep students safe on their school-issued devices. This application allows you to see what choices your student is making online. Please click here to learn more about the reports you can receive through Securly.
