We have an amazing staff, who work hard to provide your children a nutritious breakfast and lunch.  Here are menus for your consideration. We are excited about the meals we are cooking and hope you will encourage your child to eat with us.

The Mountain View Whisman School District Food and Nutrition Services (FANS) Department provides delicious food done well. We meet stringent federal nutrition standards for school meals, while ensuring meals are healthy, well-balanced and provide students the nutrition they need to succeed at school.  Now is a great time to encourage your kids to choose school lunch!

School meals offer students a variety of protein choices and grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and milk, which all must meet strict limits on saturated fat, calories, sodium, and portion size. 

School meals must adhere to increased nutrition standards from the Federal Government, such as:

  • Age-appropriate calorie limits;
  • Larger servings of vegetables and fruits (students must take at least one serving of produce);
  • A wider variety of vegetables, including dark green and red/orange vegetables and legumes;
  • Fat-free or 1% milk (flavored milk must be fat-free); and,
  • More whole grains and less sodium.

We take pride in our program and it shows!  We work to offer our students healthier and tastier choices. The majority of our meals are freshly-prepared from scratch at our Crittenden Middle School kitchen daily from local foods, that are antibiotic-free without additives or growth hormones.  Our ravioli and tortellini are made fresh for us by a local trattoria and our pizzas are also made fresh locally. New this year, we will provide a fresh fruit & vegetable salad bar, offering many locally-sourced and organic products. 

National Lunch Program

MVWSD uses an online application process for free or reduced-price meals. Just as in the past, you will need to reapply annually. Please apply online for the National School Lunch Program here. Paper applications are available at your school office and cafeteria.

Note: Your eligibility determination will not be immediate. Nutrition services may take up to 10 days to process your application once we receive all of the needed information. You are  responsible for your child’s meals at full price until your application is processed or otherwise advised. Please apply early to avoid unnecessary charges.

The online application deadline is on or before approximately September 20 annually. Please see the application for more information.

Paying for meals

Full or reduced price meals can be paid online at www.EZschoolPay.com. Full price meals cost $3.50 for lunch and $2.50 for breakfast (reduced price is $0.40 for lunch and $0.30 for breakfast). You must pay in advance (online, check, or cash) or at the time of purchase. No credit will be extended. You can also add money to your lunch account anytime by using www.EZschoolPay.com (There is a 3% fee for this service.)

Food Myths and The Real Scoop!!!
  • Lunch menus meet or exceed the Healthier US school challenge Gold Aware Guidelines.
  • To help increase fiber, whole wheat and whole grain breads are used, including many breakfast items.
  • To help students consume enough calcium, we offer a choice of nonfat or low fat milk. Milk does not contain high corn fructose syrup.
  • To help students with their fat intake we utilize low fat entrees whenever possible. All items are trans-fat free and nothing is fried.
  • To encourage students to eat more fruits and vegetables we offer a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. We use organic produce when possible. Canned fruit is packed in juice. The produce of the month features a different fruit or vegetable monthly.

In accordance with Federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, the USDA, its Agencies, offices, and employees, and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA.
