Measure T Overview
Measure T Overview
On behalf of the Mountain View Whisman School District Board of Trustees, students and staff, we express our deep appreciation to the community for the successful passage of bond Measure T. Measure T is expected to pass with 66% (unofficial results) of voters' support.
Measure T will ensure our schools continue to provide safe and modern learning environments for our students; for both those who attend now, and those coming to us in the short-term. Additionally, we will be able to provide staff and teacher housing at low rental rates to keep them in Mountain View, and pay off construction loans to increase the District’s flexibility in dealing with long-term growth.
We do not take the community’s trust lightly. Please be assured that we will do everything possible to guarantee that your hard earned tax dollars will be spent in the most cost effective manner possible. The District will establish an independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee to monitor expenditures from the bonds, to ensure that bond revenues are used as specified, and to inform the public about bond expenditures.
A big “thank you” goes out to all the volunteers who dedicated their time to inform the public about the bond. We are very grateful to the many volunteers who worked to make calls, walk their neighborhoods and endorse Measure T.
***
Mountain View Whisman School District (MVWSD) proudly provides a high-quality education that prepares local elementary and middle school students for high school, college and careers. Our district has many California Distinguished and National Blue Ribbon schools, which keep property values high and enhance our quality of life.
Our community relies on MVWSD teachers to ensure students are prepared to compete when they reach high school and college, but Mountain View educators cannot afford to live here. MVWSD is developing plans to provide affordable housing options for teachers and staff to help keep them working in our local schools.
The Mountain View community has supported schools with facility improvement bond funding in the past and our district is examining options to begin the next phase of work in outdated classrooms and buildings. Upgrades are needed to accommodate growing enrollment and bring school facilities up to modern standards.
To address these needs,
the MVWSD community approved Measure T, a $259 million bond measure on the March 3, 2020 ballot.
