ADMISSION

Age of Admission

Proof of age shall be required of all enrolling students. The legal evidences of age, in order of desirability, are a birth certificate, baptismal certificate, passport, immigration certificate, Bible record, or affidavit from the parent/guardian.

A child shall be eligible for enrollment in kindergarten at the beginning of a school year, or at a later time in the same school year if the child will have his or her fifth birthday on or before September 1 (Education Code 48000):

A child shall be admitted to the first grade at the beginning of a school year or a later time in the school year, if the child will have his or her sixth birthday on or before September 1 (Education Code 48010): 

Notwithstanding the dates set forth above, a child who, consistent with Section 48000, has been admitted to the kindergarten maintained by a private or public school in California or any other state, and who as completed one school year therein, shall be admitted to the first grade of an elementary school unless the parent or guardian of the child and the school district agree that the child may continue in kindergarten for not more than an additional school year. (Education Code 48011)

Early Entry to Kindergarten or First Grade

A child who becomes five years old after the dates listed above may be admitted into kindergarten, with parental approval when the Superintendent or designee determines on a case-by-case basis that such admittance is in the child's best interests.

A child who becomes six years old after the dates listed may be admitted into first grade, with parental approval when the Superintendent or designee determines on a case-by-case basis that such admittance is in the child’s best interests.

Transitional Kindergarten

To the extent required by state law, the District shall provide a transitional kindergarten program for those students who meet the age requirements as described below. Student participation in a transitional kindergarten program shall be at the option of the parent and shall not create any priorities under Administrative Regulation No. 5115, Enrollment Priorities.

For the 2022-23 school year, children whose 5th birthday is between September 2 and February 2
For the 2023-24 school year, children whose 5th birthday is between September 2 and April 2
For the 2024-25 school year, children whose 5th birthday is between September 2 and June 2
For the 2025-26 school year, and in each school year thereafter, children who turn four by September 1
