Mandatory masking to continue through June 3

Dear Parents and Staff,

Thank you for hanging in there with masking in the last couple of weeks. Since we reinstituted masking on April 26, we have not seen community spread within a classroom as we did when we were unmasked. I know that we all wanted to be "done" with masks, but we just aren't there yet. Based on the data (see below), mandatory indoor masking for all students and staff members will continue through the end of the school year.Outdoor masking will continue to be optional. Additionally, we encourage school classes and programs to be outside when possible, to further limit transmission.

Date Student cases Staff cases Combined cases
Tues, 4/26 19 2 21
Tues, 5/3 27 6 33
Tues, 5/10 28 7 35

Dr. Sarah Cody reported at the County's press conference this week that they're seeing a county-wide uptick. COVID transmission rates are around what they were in Feb. The countywide 7-day rolling average of reported COVID-19 cases almost tripled in a month; from 193 on April 3 to 589 on May 3.

The good news is that since masking is an effective means of preventing the transmission of COVID, in addition to our other mitigation strategies, we can keep more staff members and students well and in the classroom. If more of us are well, we can continue to gather and take part in the end-of-the-year activities that we've all been looking forward to; picnics, awards programs, performing arts events, field trips, and promotion ceremonies.

Please stay safe and well, and enjoy the last few days of this school year.
