The MVWSD is committed to providing quality, early education because we understand the importance of early brain development and its impact on future learning and success.  We are a proud participant in Quality Matters and the QRIS and all of our preschool sites are independently rated at the highest levels.  The MVWSD Preschool Program is also the recipient of the 2018 California School Boards Association's Golden Bell Award in Early Childhood Education and an Inclusion Endorsement from the Santa Clara County's Inclusion Collaborative

We use a developmentally appropriate curriculum that supports kindergarten readiness and is aligned with the California Department of Education's Preschool Learning Foundations. Our classroom and office staff work diligently with our students and their families to build a strong foundation that will last a lifetime. Any family living in Mountain View with an age-eligible child is invited to apply for preschool services.

Beginning August 2024
Part-Day, Full-Day & After-School Options

The Mountain View Whisman School District provides free part-day State Preschool to eligible families. We are not contracted with the California Department of Education to provide full-day State Preschool.  However, families that qualify for free part-day State Preschool may choose to extend their child's schedule to full-day by paying a reduced tuition for the additional school hours.  After-school care is also available for an additional fee.

For families that are ineligible for State Preschool, we have a limited number of part-day, full-day, and after-school care for below-market rates.

Part-day sessions are Monday - Friday from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. or 12:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Full-day sessions are Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and after-school care is available from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Age Eligibility, Priority & Enrollment

For all preschool classes, your child must be at least 3 years old by December 1st to be eligible for enrollment.  If your child's 3rd birthday is on or after December 2nd, your child will be eligible for preschool once he/she turns 3 years old.

Priority for all preschool spaces is given to Mountain View residents and children who will be 4 years old by December 1st of the school year for which the child is enrolling. All classes run Monday through Friday (no partial week schedules). A child can only enroll in one session.  All preschoolers living within the Castro Elementary School boundary are eligible for FREE, part-day State Preschool at the Latham Preschool site, regardless of family income.  Children living within the Castro School boundary who do not meet State Preschool income eligibility requirements will be enrolled at the lowest priority.  Please keep in mind that eligibility for part-day State Preschool or our Fee-Based program DOES NOT guarantee enrollment.

Spaces are limited, so submit your application today! We enroll new students throughout the school year as spaces become available. However, the enrollment process for each new school year begins during the preceding February. Children remain on the waiting list until they are no longer age-eligible for our program, and there is no need to re-apply each year.
