Board of Trustees

The Mountain View Whisman School District's Board of Trustees functions as the legislative body of the district and establishes the vision, goals and policies by which the school district is operated. Residents of the District are eligible to run for election to overlapping four-year terms. Trustees are elected by the registered voters of the district.

Your elected members of the MVWSD Board of Trustees are here to serve you. In order to most effectively answer your questions, here are helpful hints about when to contact Trustees.

Call your Board Members about: • setting long-term goals and vision of the District • policies which govern the school district (such as what curricula schools use, which schools students attend, etc.)• oversight of facilities • ratification of collective bargaining agreements • community topics and intra-governmental relations

Often, resolution comes after making these contacts first:

Talk to the District receptionist about: • phone numbers or extensions for departments, staff members, and schools • enrollment procedures • district boundaries

Call the Superintendent’s Office about: • unresolved problems • District policies • school board meeting dates and agendas and minutes of those meetings • how to contact school board members • how to run for school board • general issues and concerns • communications

Call Educational Services about: textbook selections • student test results • academic standards • standardized testing • choice and special school programs • English Language Learner programs • specialized educational programs offered by and through the District, e.g., Special Education • student evaluation and placement process • explanation of test scores • view curriculum and materials

Call Administrative & Student Services about: • immunization requirements • inter- and intra-district transfers • background checks • district calendar • health services • employee hiring and orientation • registering a student for school • student attendance concerns • residency • school boundaries

Call Business Services about: • how much money the District receives • how the money is spent • parcel tax • Measure G bond • construction • payroll • employee benefits • senior citizen parcel tax exemptions • student nutrition

Call Maintenance, Operations and Transportation about: • bus schedules and bus passes • community use of school facilities

When in doubt, call the Superintendent’s Office (650-526-3552). District staff routinely takes calls from the public and can direct you to the right person.
