From the Desk of Mr. Baier

Jeff BaierDear Families,

This is always one of the busiest times of the school year. Our calendars are full, and the days seem to move a little faster as we head into spring. Amid all the activity, I want to take a moment to reflect on what makes this time so meaningful—our students, their growth, and the incredible work happening across our schools.

In just the next two weeks, our community will come together for walkathons, students will experience life-changing moments in Yosemite, our middle schools will take the stage for their musicals (I highly encourage you to attend and support these talented performers; details are below), and we will welcome families to open houses at both our elementary and middle schools. These events are more than just dates on a calendar—they are opportunities to celebrate learning, creativity, connection, and achievement.

Right now, our students are growing in remarkable ways. They are building skills, gaining confidence, deepening friendships, and discovering new interests. None of this happens by accident. It is made possible by the dedication, care, and expertise of our staff, who work tirelessly each day to support every child and the support and love of our families.

I encourage all of us to pause and take it in. These moments—big and small—are fleeting, and they are worth celebrating.

Warmly,

Jeffrey Baier

Board meeting review: 2025-2026 Second Interim Budget Report, Next Steps with Orenda Report, Recognizing Women's History Month

2025-2026 Second Interim Budget Report

Staff presented the Second Interim that reports changes to the District's 2025-2026 budget adopted in June 2025.

Property tax revenue—the District’s primary funding source—is projected to remain lower than historical levels. MVWSD has already committed to $7.5 million in reductions for next year; even with these actions, reserves will be depleted at a rate that is not sustainable.

This year’s financial outlook has improved in part due to careful spending decisions. When positions become vacant, the District is thoughtfully evaluating whether they need to be filled immediately, resulting in additional savings.

Taking action early allows the District to avoid more significant cuts in the future and supports long-term financial stability. However, it remains critical that we continue to plan ahead and align ongoing expenses with ongoing revenue.

Next Steps with Orenda Report

Orenda Education made comprehensive recommendations necessary to improve outcomes for all students and close achievement gaps. Staff presented the first look at the implementation of this work that will take sustained effort and focused commitment over a number of years.

Resolution Recognizing Women's History Month

The Trustees passed a resolution acknowledging the significant and historical contributions women of every background have made in our community.

MVWSD Earns Top Credit Rating from Moody’s

Moody's bondsIn preparation for refunding our bonds, MVWSD has been reaffirmed with a Aaa rating—its highest possible—from Moody’s for the district’s $60.4 million 2026 General Obligation Refunding Bonds.

Moody’s cited MVWSD’s consistent financial management, healthy reserves (about 50% of revenue), and strong Silicon Valley economy. While short-term deficits are projected, the District has already approved $7.5 million in budget reductions to maintain long-term stability.

The Aaa bond rating also reflects California’s strong bond safeguards, including dedicated property tax revenues.
