Staff changes in Office of Superintendent

picture of Kathi LilgaAfter 36 years in our district, Kathi Lilga, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, has retired. We very much appreciate her years of service to our District and Board of Trustees.

Kathi began her career in MVWSD in 1984 and was a secretary at Landels Elementary, where her children attended. She was named Executive Assistant to the Superintendent in 1992 and worked with many superintendents.

Nancy Rodriguez, the Administrative Assistant for the Business Services Department since 2016, will be the new Executive Assistant to the Superintendent. She has 19 years of experience in the Sunnyvale Elementary School District.

Best wishes to Kathi, and welcome to Nancy.

Check-in with the Superintendent: Friday, May 8

picture of keyboardPlease join us for an online check-in with Dr. Ayindé Rudolph on Friday, May 8 at 3:30 p.m. He will be covering some of the topics on parents’ minds, as well as taking questions. These check-ins will be held on a regular basis on Fridays. For login information, on May 8 please click on www.mvwsd.org.

Celebrating students virtually: Promotions and reclassification

Even though we can’t be together physically, we certainly want to celebrate all that our students have accomplished. Our schools are working on video celebrations to be released at the end of the year for eighth-grade promotion, fifth-grade promotion and for our students reclassifying as English language proficient. Stay tuned!

Some of the topics to be covered in the meeting:

Math placement: Staff will present on revisions to the middle school math placement process. This year due to the suspension of state and District assessments, the process will look a little different, but the goal is the same. We will work to ensure that your student is placed in a class that is right for him/her.

School reopening plan: There are many aspects of reopening school after COVID-19 closure: Instruction, facilities, operations, wellness, professional development, technology, equity and more. Staff will present an overview of the planning process. In addition to planning for reopening, MVWSD is working on its next steps in expanding technology access in our community. Dr. Rudolph will be unveiling where we are headed next with technology as a part of our larger response to COVID-19. We are committed to reopening safely and in an organized manner.

Parcel Tax Oversight Committee, Bond Oversight Committee: The Trustees will hear the year end reports from each of these groups. In order to ensure that the proceeds of the parcel tax and bond issues are spent according to the terms approved by voters, these citizen’s oversight committees meet 3-4 times a year and report to the Board of Trustees on an annual basis.
