COVID update: Masking, other protocols changing on March 28
MVWSD will further loosen restrictions due to changing state and county guidance. Here are the highlights of changes, beginning March 28.

For a closer look at the infographic, please click here.
  • Both outdoor and indoor masking is strongly recommended (no longer required) for students and staff. Exceptions: Masks are required on buses for all, indoors for volunteers and preschoolers. Unvaccinated staff members (adults without a booster) must wear a mask for 10 days after exposure to a positive case. Masks required indoors for sports and performing arts spectators, regardless of vaccination status.

  • Multi-use rooms will open for food distribution on April 4. Students will wear masks as they pick up food indoors. Outdoor eating will continue.

  • Parents will not have access to campus at drop off and pick up, but campuses will be open 15 minutes after dismissal. Please respect the areas of campus that will remain closed for sports teams and afterschool programs.

  • Your school will provide at-home COVID tests kits for parents to administer to students on April 17 before returning to school after Spring Break on April 18. More information to come.

For details about changes to COVID protocols, please see this webpagePlease visit mvwsd.org/returntolearn for the updated quarantine flow chart.

We are currently monitoring the latest COVID variant, BA.2. It’s important to note that MVWSD reserves the right to be more restrictive in its COVID requirements than state/county guidance, in order to protect the safety of all students and staff members. MVWSD will reinstate universal masking if the positive rate of tested pools exceeds 9%.

We encourage you to have discussions with your children about empathy toward people’s masking choices. Here's a resource for how to be an upstander and respectfully speak up and speak out.

Bike Safety: Resources and upcoming trainings

Safe routes graphicIt's extremely important to all of us that our students are safe when biking to and from school. In light of last week's tragedy, look for bike safety programs to come to your child's school soon. These programs are in addition to ones that have already been presented this year.

The City of Mountain View has great resources online for Safe Routes to School. Please take a moment to review the maps and resources with your young bikers.

COVID vaccinations before Spring Break: Clinic at Graham on April 5

El Camino Health will host a public COVID vaccination clinic at Graham Middle School on April 5 from 3:30-7:30 p.m. All individuals 5 and older who need their primary series or booster are welcome. More information to come.

Board meeting review: Changes to meal program, report on future growth

The Board of Trustees met on Thursday night. Here are the highlights.

Child Nutrition

Our schools are returning to lunch line service beginning on April 4 as a result of less strict COVID protocols. This means that students will have choices of salad bar every day, fresh veggies (packaged), choice of entrees (one from the menu, a vegetarian option and a sandwich alternative on most days. It also means that pizza in-a-box from local vendors is coming back! Students must be masked in MUR while picking up lunch and will continue to eat outside in good weather. We ask your patience with food lines and service during this transition, especially as we train our youngest students on new procedures.

The more students who eat, the more funding that MVWSD gets from the state/federal government to help offset compounding labor and supplies costs. The Board of Trustees approved an increase in the price of paid lunch to $5.50 for students and $6.50 for adults and the cost of breakfast to $3.50 for students and $4.00 for adults. The new prices will be implemented at the end of free lunches (in approximately 2 years), and bring us into compliance with the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). Meal menus are at mvwsd.org/nutrition.

Future Growth Considerations and Solutions

With 856 new students predicted for MVWSD in the short-term and schools at or over capacity by 2029, the Board and staff continue to study options for expanding existing campuses and the potential for adding new school sites. Click here to view the presentation.
