Board meeting review: Security cameras, LCAP and i-Ready results
The Board of Trustees met on Thursday night. Here are the highlights.
   * Security cameras: The Trustees approved the policy to govern the use of security cameras to prevent vandalism and ensure campus safety. The need for these cameras has been highlighted by an uptick in afterhours campus vandalism in the past year. Now that the guiding policy has been approved, the next step is staff will work on schematic design, cost, and timeline to present to the Board. The implementation of cameras is scheduled for this summer. Click here to view the presentation.
lcap  * LCAP: The annual process of developing the Local Control Accountability Plan has begun. Look for the LCAP survey coming at the end of the month to parents, students and staff. Click here for the presentation.
   * i-Ready results: The results from Diagnostic 2 show an increase in students' reading and math proficiency across the District, especially for our youngest students. Overall districtwide, English Learners and Hispanic/Latino students improved in proficiency. Even though we have made growth, 36% of students are still below grade level
in reading and 42% of our students are still below grade level in math. MVWSD’s areas of focus will include classroom strategies such as the intentional creation of small groups of students based on data for reteaching and review,
and targeted instruction. Click here to view the presentation.

Update on Volunteers

Starting Feb. 1, schools will kick off the first phase of the return of on-campus volunteers. In this initial phase, please understand that volunteers will be asked on campus only for the purpose of helping with specific school-identified needs as we continue to be vigilant about COVID protocols. Look for more information from your principal about your school’s volunteer process and requests, likely starting with COVID testing assistance. Additionally, PTAs and other school/district groups will be able to use campus areas for afterschool meetings. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we slowly and safely bring volunteers back to campuses.

Coming soon: More information about the process for regular volunteers to apply for and receive identification badges. These badges will work with the Raptor electronic check in stations at school offices. Potential volunteers can complete their background checks and other documentation just once a year. Then, they can quickly scan their badge at the office.

Getting reimbursed from insurers for purchases of COVID at-home test kits

As of Jan. 15, people with private health insurance can get reimbursed by their insurer for the cost of up to eight at-home COVID tests per month. This program applies only to at-home tests purchased on or after Jan. 15, and covers eight free tests per covered individual per month. Here’s general information about how to get reimbursed.

Request your free at-home COVID tests

Order free, at-home tests: Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order 4 at-home COVID-19 tests. The tests are completely free. Near the end of January, orders will start shipping in 7-12 days. Order your tests now so you have them when you need them. https://www.covidtests.gov.
