Board meeting review: LCAP, Budget adoption, Systems Improvement, Summer Construction, Pride Month

Local Control Accountability Plan

The Trustees approved the district’s three-year plan, the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) for 2026-27. The plan outlines goals and strategies for improving achievement for all students and provides updates on the prior year’s plan successes and challenges through the annual update. The draft LCAP and presentation is here.

2026-2027 Budget Adoption

Our current financial outlook of increased expenditures and reduced revenue is not unexpected. The money, property tax revenue,  isn’t growing the way it used to, and the cost of educating students continues to rise. The Trustees adopted the 2026-27 budget that reflects the similar trend we experienced last year—slow revenue growth and increased expenditures. We will have to make thoughtful, strategic budget reductions again this year to support students and protect our future.

Systems Implementation & Instructional Improvement

The MVWSD Way is our district’s approach to ensuring every student succeeds through high-quality, research-backed instruction.

A recent system study outlined key recommendations to strengthen outcomes for all students. In the months and years ahead, MVWSD will focus on strengthening standards-aligned instruction across all schools, with clear expectations and rigor guided by state standards, while also supporting educators in using data to inform instruction.

Sustaining this important, multi-year work requires strong support for our educators. To that end, the Board approved a $421,253 competitive proposal with Orenda to provide professional development next year. Orenda demonstrated that they have the expertise, experience and results necessary to support MVWSD to implement the recommendations from the study efficiently and expeditiously.

Measure T Summer Construction Update

summer constructionThanks to our community's support of Measure T in 2020, the district continues to make significant investments in our schools. We are proud to share that all applicable Measure T Priority 1 projects have been completed on time and under budget, allowing us to continue improving learning environments for students while being good stewards of taxpayer dollars.

This summer, many campuses will see exciting upgrades, including new outdoor learning areas (Castro/ Mistral in 2027) that expand opportunities for hands-on learning and collaboration, as well as roofing upgrades that preserve our schools. These projects are part of our ongoing commitment to providing students with safe, modern, and engaging learning environments.

Resolution Recognizing LGBTQ+ Pride Month

The Trustees approved a resolution recognizing June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month, celebrating the diversity, dignity, and ongoing contributions of the LGBTQ+ community.

8th Grade Promotions

Our 8th graders at Graham and Crittenden Middle Schools marked an important milestone: promotion to high school! Families, staff, and friends gathered to honor the accomplishments of these remarkable students and celebrate the journeys. Together, the Graham Bears and Crittenden Panthers have grown as learners, leaders, athletes, artists, musicians, problem-solvers, and community members.

To our newest high school students: continue to be curious, courageous, and kind. Your future is bright, and your MVWSD community will always be cheering you on. We are proud of you! Congratulations!
