Dear Families,
With recent reports of local deportations and the unrest in Los Angeles, I want to reaffirm the rights and privacy of all students at MVWSD—regardless of immigration status.
The reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities do not change our District’s policies or practices. In fact, we are more committed than ever to welcoming, protecting, and supporting every student and their family.
I want to affirm our commitments:
- We will not allow immigration-enforcement officers on campus unless they present a signed judicial warrant or demonstrate exigent circumstances.
- We will not share personal information about students or families for immigration-enforcement purposes unless required by a court order or judicial subpoena.
- Our staff will not collect or keep information about the citizenship status of students or their families
Federal and state law provide the right for all children—regardless of immigration or citizenship status— to a public education without discrimination, harassment, violence, or intimidation. We are also committed to this Board Resolution Affirming Support of Students and Families Regarding Immigration Enforcement Actions At Schools.
The well-being of every student and their family matters to us, and we want to assure you that our schools are safe and welcoming places for everyone—no matter their immigration status, background, or personal situation.
Here are resources for families, especially helpful over the summer when school is out.

I am proud to serve an incredibly diverse and resilient community as we work to support each other through these challenges.
Thank you
As we wrap up this school year, I want to take a moment to thank you for your partnership and support. It has been a wonderful year of growth, learning, and community — and none of it would be possible without your continued involvement.
We are so proud of our students — for their hard work, creativity, and resilience. Whether it was in the classroom, on the field, on stage, or in service to others, they showed up and gave their best.
As we look ahead to next year, we’re excited to continue building on this momentum and creating even more opportunities for students to thrive. Wishing you a restful and joyful summer with your families!
Warmly,
Jeffrey Baier
Superintendent

Staff Housing Nonprofit Seeks Board Members
|
|

MVWSD recently opened the doors to its new 144-unit staff housing development—an initiative designed to help teachers and school staff continue living in the community they serve. This collaborative project between MVWSD, the City of Mountain View, and Miramar Capital includes 123 below-market-rate studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments available to eligible employees.
To ensure the long-term success and stability of this project, the MVWSD Board of Trustees has established a dedicated nonprofit entity, the MVW Residences Corporation, which will oversee the housing development moving forward. MVWSD is currently seeking professionals from the residential real estate and finance sectors to serve on the MVW Residences Corporation Board of Directors.
Interested candidates are encouraged to apply by July 21, 2025. Applications are found here.

Board Meeting Review: i-Ready Assessment Report, Health and Wellness, Substitute Update, LGBTQ+ Pride Month
|
|
i-Ready Diagnostic 3 Assessment Report: The i-Ready Diagnostic 3 results show students have made strong improvements since the beginning of the year in both reading and math, especially in the early grades, with reading proficiency up 17% and math up 22% from the first to the third assessment. While older students made slower progress toward grade-level benchmarks, most student groups and schools showed more than a year’s worth of academic growth. These gains are linked to efforts like focus on literacy, expanded student support, and better use of data to guide teaching. The district will keep building on this work by strengthening classroom instruction and support systems to help all students succeed. Read more here.
Health and Wellness Triennial Report: MVWSD completed its required three-year review of the Local School Wellness Policy, confirming full compliance with all wellness goals across nutrition, physical activity, and student support. Based on the review, the district is recommending updates to strengthen equity, student voice, and healthy fundraising practices. Future efforts will include revised policy, continued H&W committee meetings, and regular reporting to support ongoing wellness improvements. Read more here.
Substitute Update: Our district relies on substitute teachers to provide classroom consistency when staff are absent, though finding qualified substitutes remains a statewide challenge. The district is prioritizing fully credentialed substitutes for long-term roles and determining interest in additional permit options, like the TPSL and Career Substitute Permit, to ensure coverage. Moving forward, the district will continue to work with the schools to better support substitute placement and coverage planning. Read more here.
Resolution Recognizing LGBTQ+ Pride Month: The Board recognized June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month, celebrating the diversity, dignity, and ongoing contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. Read the resolution here.

Congratulations to the Class of 2025 from Crittenden and Graham Middle Schools!
It was a joy to celebrate the achievements and growth of our 8th graders at their promotion ceremonies. We’re proud of all they’ve accomplished and wish them the very best as they begin their high school journey and beyond.

Tree Planting Day at Bubb with Canopy
The Bubb Elementary community recently came together to celebrate Tree Planting Day — a joyful event that marked the beginning of a greener, cooler, and more welcoming campus. With support from local nonprofit Canopy and the City of Mountain View, students, staff, and families joined forces to plant the first 15 trees as part of a two-phase initiative tied to the school’s upcoming Outdoor Learning Project. More than just beautification, the effort reflects a shared commitment to climate action, student well-being, and environmental stewardship. Our partnership with Canopy and the City will continue as we plant more trees at our other school sites.

TK/Kinder events
All elementary sites recently held events to welcome their new incoming students. New students were able to meet their principals and teachers and celebrate with popsicles. Incoming TK and Kindergarten students also received books and activities to complete over the summer. Many of the books included QR codes so that students could listen to their new teachers read aloud the books in English and Spanish!
Green Ribbon
The Santa Clara County Office of Education recently recognized MVWSD as a 2025 California Green Ribbon School District Sustainability Honoree at its meeting. Our District works to conserve resources while promoting health and environmental literacy. Our schools are powered by 79% renewable energy, have three-stream waste management/reduction, implemented solar, and are developing Outdoor Learning Areas.
