Jeff Baier

From the desk of Mr. Baier

My first two weeks in MVWSD have been outstanding. I appreciated the many introductions to people that make up our community - students, teachers, parents and staff and the Mountain View community groups. We truly live in a dynamic place where children are cherished and their education is valued so highly. There really are great days ahead. Thanks to all for the warm welcome “back home.”

We continue to reaffirm all families and students in the wake of immigration enforcement. We have been talking with our staff members and reviewing our school and district procedures so that we are prepared to handle a variety of situations. In talking with parents and staff members, I know this continues to be a topic that causes a lot of anxiety.

I want to restate the intent of our District and Board of Trustees:

  • Immigration-enforcement officers will not be permitted on campus unless they present a signed judicial warrant or demonstrate exigent circumstances.

  • Schools will not share personal information about students or families for immigration-enforcement purposes without a court order or judicial subpoena.

  • School staff will not collect or maintain information about students’ or families’ citizenship status

The Board approved this Resolution Affirming Support of Students and Families Regarding Immigration Enforcement Actions At Schools as an expression of  their commitment to the legal rights of all students, particularly those who fear that they may be removed from their families and schools. Additionally, I have signed on to the county’s letter of support

Sincerely,
Jeff Baier
Interim Superintendent

Board meeting review: Volunteer process update, LCAP update, Financing options for purchasing land, Governors January budget proposal

Volunteer approval process: Staff presented changes to the process for next year. Rather than counting visits, MVWSD will use the hours range from state law, which allows parents to volunteer more often before being required to get a badge. Click here to read the presentation. Click here for a summary of the changes for next year.

LCAP: Staff reported on the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) and Budget Overview for Parents (BOP) at the meeting. Click here to read more about our midyear results for LCAP goals, spending and progress on LCAP actions.

Financing options for purchasing land: MVWSD owns the staff housing building, and leases the land.  The Board discussed options to fund the potential purchase of the land in the near future. This long-term investment could reduce expenses for MVWSD and potentially lower rents for residents. Click here to read the presentation.

Governor’s January budget proposal: Staff presented the highlights of the Governor's January Budget Proposal. Based on this information and the revision that will come in May, staff will work to develop the MVWSD budget for the 2025-2026 year. Click here to read more.

February break

winter breakJust a reminder: Winter break is Feb. 17-21.  The District Office will be open Feb 19-21. We'll see students and staff back on Monday, Feb. 24. Please be safe.
