Board meeting review: Staff Housing and Employee Wellness/Coaching Update

Staff housing: Staff provided an update on the construction of MVWSD staff housing at 699 N Shoreline Blvd. Thanks to the community’s support of Measure T in 2020, this is the first affordable housing development in our community created specifically for MVWSD staff members. The new community includes 123 state-of-the-art units for qualifying staff members to rent at below-market rates. See more at mvwsd.org/housing

The Board approved a resolution establishing a Staff Housing Oversight Committee with up to seven representative members appointed by the Board of Trustees.  Employee applications will be processed in November / December 2024. Move-in is to begin in January  (as with any construction, this date is tentative)

Employee Wellness/Coaching: Dr. Rudolph presented MVWSD’s approach to improving employee retention and engagement through coaching, wellness and employee development. Read the reasons MVWSD invests in people in order to boost retention and ensure adults are well so they can give their best to students and solve complex problems.  Click here to read the presentation and materials.

MVWSD is part of national cohort working to reduce student absences

Student sitting at deskChronic student absences are up across the country and have profound negative impacts. MVWSD is proud to be one of just 17 districts nationwide to embark on a new approach to reducing student chronic absenteeism. Through an initiative of the Center for Inclusive Innovation within Digital Promise, these districts will enlist the help of students, parents, and other community members in crafting an absence-fighting strategy. We will continue to work to have every child in school, every day. Read more here

MVWSD is working to open a grant-funded SPARC Center (School Parent Activities and Resource Center) at Graham Middle School. This center will provide a home base for at-risk families from all schools to gather and to engage with each other and services and programs. Look for an opening activity next month. Thank you to the School Community Engagement Facilitators team for making this project a reality!
