At the Feb. 29 Board of Trustees meeting:
Early Literacy Update: In response to the District’s goal of supporting young readers, MVWSD formed an early literacy team. This team of educators is providing services to approximately 40% of students in grades K-2 at targeted elementary schools. The result is double digit increases in test scores and 50 students exited out of the program with new, stronger reading skills! View the presentation and summary here.
Environmental Sustainability Plan Update: Staff presented an update on the work in the last year since the Board passed the Climate Change and Green Schoolyard Board Resolution (05-012623). The Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee and staff have been planning work in the six areas of MVWSD’s Sustainability Action Plan. View the presentation here.
Recognizing Women's History Month: The Board of Trustees passed a resolution in support of Women's History Month. MVWSD recognizes the significant and historical contributions women of every race, class, and ethnic background have made in our community. In the month of March, MVWSD’s Better Together program is taking a moment to honor the women trailblazers who shattered barriers and paved the way for future generations. As a way of honoring them, students in the district will be learning about what it means to embody the spirit of being helpers for others, especially for others facing challenges and inequities. By standing #BetterTogether and amplifying the voices of women, we honor their legacy and continue to strive for a better world.
Parcel Tax Polling: The Board heard the results of polling in Mountain View about a potential parcel tax for the schools. Voters were generally asked about their perceptions of the District as well as their support for two different variations of parcel taxes that could potentially be on the November ballot. The current tax, Parcel Tax B, is set to expire in 2025. Parcel tax revenue provides essential funding for student programs and technology.
