City/District Growth & Development

The District supports smart growth in our city, and the building of a community that allows our families and staff members to affordably live, work and thrive here in Mountain View. Our city continues to grow, and the City of Mountain View is considering new development, such as the North Bayshore Precise Plan.

These exciting new developments, though, mean that MVWSD is facing the addition of approximately 1,560 new students from the three future neighborhoods in the North Bayshore development in the City of Mountain View.

This presents some challenges for the District. Partnerships with City, the developers, residents and MVWSD is the path forward to planning for the future.
· Existing Capacity. Predicted growth exceeds current school facility capacity by 1,097 students or the equivalent of two elementary schools and an additional middle school.
· Land. MVWSD does not have land or funding for land in the northern part of the city on which to build schools.
· Construction. The cost of construction alone for new facilities could exceed $75 million.
· Traffic. The negative effect of additional traffic on our schools, staff and families.

MVWSD looks forward to working together to solve these community issues and dreaming of our schools of the future.
