The Mountain View Whisman School District Preschool Program accepts applications for the preschool waiting list on an on-going basis. As part of our commitment to providing a high quality, early childhood classroom experience, our preschool program uses a developmentally based curriculum that is aligned with California Department of Education and Head Start's early childhood standards for kindergarten readiness. Additionally, the majority of our teachers have a BA in Early Childhood Education or a related field and all teachers maintain Child Development Permits issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Our classroom and office staff work diligently with our students and their families to build a strong foundation in early learning that will last a lifetime.
Our preschool classrooms are located at Castro, Slater, and Theuerkauf School sites. There are several different ways in which families may qualify for our program, regardless of income (based on State Preschool, Head Start and/or Child Signature Program - First5 eligibility requirements). All preschool sessions are FREE.
ENROLLMENT FOR EACH SCHOOL YEAR IS ONGOING
AS SPACES BECOME AVAILABLE
The eligibility requirements are as follows:
Head Start & State Preschool
- Your child must be 3 or 4 years old by September 1st of the school year for which your are applying.
- You must meet income requirements. For example, a family of 4 making between $0-$46,896/yr. qualifies for State Preschool and a family of 4 making $31,005/yr qualifies for Head Start (these are gross income amounts).

Priority for all preschool classes is given to children who will be 4 years old by September 1st of the school year for which the child is enrolling. All classes are half-day sessions (either 3 or 3 1/2 hours), Monday through Friday. A child can only enroll in one session. Once your child's name is on the waiting list, our enrollment clerk will contact you if a space becomes available for your child. Spaces are limited so submit your application today!
We enroll new students throughout the school year as spaces become available, however, enrollment for each new school year begins during the preceding February. Children remain on the waiting list until they are no longer age eligible for our program (there is no need to re-apply each year).
