Measure G FAQs

What is Measure G?
Measure G is a school facilities improvement bond measure that was approved on June 5, 2012 by 67.58% of the voters living in the Mountain View Whisman School District.
How were Measure G funds used?

Measure G funded construction was completed in 2019. Funds were used to:

  • Bring schools up to current fire and earthquake safety standards
  • Remove hazardous materials like asbestos and lead
  • Repair and upgrade deteriorated plumbing, sewers and restrooms
  • Make schools accessible for students with disabilities
  • Build classrooms to avoid overcrowding and allow children to attend their neighborhood schools
  • Maintain school facilities to protect the community’s investment
  • Modernize science labs, classrooms computer and technology
  • Improve energy and operational efficiency to save millions that can be used to protect quality instructional programs and teachers

Some of the high-impact Measure G projects included new Innovation Centers and Auditoriums at Graham and Crittenden Middle Schools, new campuses for Stevenson and Castro Elementary schools, and new libraries and multi-use rooms for Huff, Bubb and Landels.

Is there an exemption for seniors?
Unfortunately, unlike parcel taxes, the law does not allow for a senior exemption on bond measures.
What is the cost to taxpayers?
The annual cost to property owners will be no more than $30 per $100,000 of assessed property value.
Can Measure G funding be taken away by Sacramento?
No. By law, all funds generated by Measure G must stay in the Mountain View Whisman School. The State cannot take away one penny.
How can I be sure that the funds will be spent appropriately?
The provisions of Measure G state that no funds can be spent on administrators’ or teachers’ salaries, pensions or benefits.  In addition, an independent citizens’ oversight committee and annual audits will ensure funds are spent as promised.
How will the independent citizens’ oversight committee be formed?
By law, the oversight committee must be representative of the community and must include at least one individual from the business community, a senior organization, and a taxpayer organization, as well as a parent with children currently in the District.  No employee or vendor of the District can be a member of the committee.
Will Measure G allow our schools to qualify for state matching funds?
The District is taking the steps needed to qualify it for additional state funding, if it should become available
