District growth update: Advocacy continues with Terra Bella

Thank you for your support of the City, developers and the District working together to develop a consistent approach for how to provide for school growth. We are grateful for the parents and staff members who have attended recent City Council meetings and written to council members.

Terra Bella: Tonight, the City is holding a public hearing for the Terra Bella vision plan. We are excited that the proposed vision plan for Terra Bella identifies land adjacent to Crittenden Middle. We will continue to advocate for land to be set aside for school use while development plans are being made. We hope that through the development of a master plan or a precise plan we can work with developers, and city staff to develop creative solutions for the school facilities needed in the face of growth.

Growth is coming: It is estimated that up to 20,000 new residential units will be added in Mountain View in the next 10 to 15 years. Much of this growth is happening in the northern portion of our district. This growth likely will result in almost 2,500 new students to our schools. This means MVWSD may need the equivalent of two new elementary schools plus an additional middle school. At its meeting on Thursday, the Board of Trustees will hear the Master Facilities Plan and consider placing on bond on the March 3 ballot to provide for school renovations and expansion in the face of growth.

Board meeting preview: Bond, facilities master plan and mental health

The Board of Trustees will Thursday at 6 p.m. To view the full agenda, please click here. Meetings are video live-streamed at www.mvwsd.org.

The Board will:
* Consider approval of a resolution ordering an election on March 3, 2020 for a bond that would provide funding for repair of current facilities and/or building of new facilities that are needed to address student growth.

* Hear a presentation from Dr. Eduardo Bunge, Professor in the Psychology department and Director of the Master’s in Science of Psychology at Palo Alto University, about mental health for students.

* Review the Master Facilities Plan and discuss options for implementation of the plan. This new Master Facilities Plan (MFP) replaces the SFIP (sunsetting in 2020) and lays a solid foundation for MVWSD to accommodate student growth, while continuing to upgrade its facilities and infrastructure over the next ten years. The MFP is proposed to inform a new bond program that likely will be put before voters for approval in 2020.

High Fives: Crittenden’s Shrek Musical

Thank you to the Crittenden students, staff and parents who pulled off a great show this weekend. Shrek The Musical JR. was a joy to watch! See the pictures here.
